Kathy Ireland Mentor Tea for Single Teen Mothers |
The Kathy Ireland Mentor Program for Single Teen Mothers provides much needed guidance and support to disadvantaged young women throughout the year.
Each single teen mother is matched to a compassionate mentor from surrounding businesses and community organizations. Through strategic esteemed speakers, resourceful workshops and valuable information, this event will serve as the foundation for a year long alliance between the mentor and mentee, in addition to inspiration for future success!
Nearly one million pregnancies occur in the US every year to teenage mothers under the age of 18. The majority of teen mothers are left with little resources and guidance, leading to a high level of high school drop out rates. The Kathy Ireland Mentor Program for Single Teen Mothers, along with 9-1-1 for Kids, strives to provide these teen mothers with the positive self-esteem and powerful resources crucial in achieving success despite the statistics.
Kathy and 9-1-1 for Kids executive director, Elise Kim developed the concept for the Mentor Program in 1990 and have coordinated hundreds of matches since then. This program received the Crystal Star Award recognizing outstending programs assisting disadvantaged women.
